New legislation values ??sustainable practices and favors income generation through the sale of carbon credits; event in Campo Grande will train producers

Brazil has strengthened its strategic position in the global carbon credit market with the approval of Law No. 15,042/2024, which established the Brazilian Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading System (SBCE). The legislation, considered one of the most robust on the international scene, structures a regulatory environment that combines technical requirements with the inclusion of producers of all sizes.

By excluding primary agricultural production from the obligation to offset in the regulated market, the law allows small, medium and large rural producers to voluntarily opt to enter the carbon market. This flexibility offers strategic freedom for the rural sector to monetize practices already adopted for years, such as the conservation of legal reserves, the recovery of degraded pastures and the integration of crops, livestock and forests (ILPF).

Incentives and inclusion in agriculture

One of the distinguishing features of Brazilian legislation is the incentive to form cooperatives and associations to facilitate the entry of small and medium-sized producers into the carbon market. This collective approach allows for the reduction of certification and monitoring costs, making access more democratic and increasing the competitiveness of Brazilian agriculture in the international market.

For medium and large producers, the law recognizes practices such as reforestation, conservation of native areas and sustainable management of fertilizers and animal waste as assets that can generate certified credits. The adoption of such technologies not only strengthens the sustainability of operations, but also diversifies the producers sources of income, creating new capitalization instruments.

Voluntary market and expansion opportunity
Within the scope of the voluntary market, Brazil now offers rural producers the possibility of generating and selling credits to national and foreign companies that need to meet their environmental goals. With proper certification, these assets can be sold to large issuers that operate in sectors subject to regulation, expanding the reach and value of projects developed in the field.

This dynamic places Brazil in a privileged position, since few countries have, like ours, legislation that allows the formal recognition of sustainable agricultural practices for the generation of carbon credits. The countrys agricultural profile itself — with perennial crops, integrated systems and vast conservation areas — favors the potential for global leadership in this emerging market.

Advances in Mato Grosso do Sul
In Mato Grosso do Sul, Rede Agronosso and Wintex Agro have already taken the first steps to connect rural producers to the new reality of the carbon market. Both institutions are working to develop practical strategies so that producers can quickly adapt to the requirements of the law and thus capture new opportunities.

As part of this movement, Portal Agronosso Europa will hold an exclusive event in Campo Grande in May 2025, with limited spaces, to train producers and entrepreneurs interested in entering the regulated and voluntary carbon market. The event will bring together experts in certification, carbon business and strategies for valuing sustainable assets.

According to the organizers, the work is already at an advanced stage and, throughout 2025, new technical meetings should be held to deepen knowledge and accelerate the insertion of Brazilian agriculture in this billion-dollar market.

Anew income frontier

With advanced regulations, technical support and a strong role for the agricultural sector, Brazil is entering a new phase in the carbon market. For rural producers, this is not only an opportunity to add value to their activity, but also to consolidate the countrys role as a global reference in sustainable production and conservation of natural resources.

Brazilian agribusiness, which is already the most efficient and environmentally friendly in the world, now has a new tool to transform its responsible practices into highly valued assets on the international market.
