In a landmark podcast episode recorded live at Showtec 2025, the largest agricultural technology fair in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Wintex Agro Brasil welcomed a special guest to its booth: Torben Vinther, the global director and founder of Wintex Agro. “I started 25 years ago in the evenings, building machines with a friend,” Vinther recalled. From humble beginnings, Wintex Agro has grown into a global leader in automatic soil sampling machines, with clients in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and now an expanding footprint in Brazil.

Automating Soil Insight

At the heart of the discussion was the suite of high-tech Wintex machines that are revolutionizing how farmers collect and analyze soil samples. From the compact Wintex 1000, which uses a hydraulic piston to sample soil at depths up to 25 cm, to the robust Wintex 3000 capable of reaching 90 cm and dividing samples across multiple soil layers, Winter emphasized that precision and consistency are key.

He also highlighted the semi-automatic MCL3 model, designed for carbon soil sampling, which uses a specialized plastic probe — showcasing the company is investment in environmental data collection and sustainability.

Why Brazil Needs Soil Tech Now

Vinther acknowledged that tropical agriculture in Brazil presents unique challenges, from acidic soils to diverse fertility zones. Yet, these are precisely the environments where Wintex machines thrive. “We designed the equipment to perform under tough conditions,” he said, adding that the Brazilian market is ripe for technological adoption.

He also noted that many farmers still rely on manual sampling, which often becomes inconsistent due to fatigue later in the workweek. “Machines do not get tired,” he quipped. “They deliver precision Monday through Friday.”

Currently, the Wintex 2000 is the most popular model in the Brazilian market, particularly favored in sugarcane regions for its ability to extract samples at multiple depths — typically 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm — crucial for crop-specific nutrient management.

Closing the conversation, Vinther praised Brazilian farmers for their skill and openness to innovation. He also expressed admiration for Brazil is laboratory infrastructure, saying he had “never seen so many excellent labs” as he did during his visits here.

“This is not just about machinery,” he emphasized. “Its about helping farmers make better decisions — more profitable, more sustainable, and more precise.”
